The South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) remained at “Stand Up” status on Monday night following rainfall of between 200m and 400mm across the region.
LDMG chair, Mayor Kathy Duff, said these were some of the highest rainfall totals on record in the South Burnett.
“Currently a large number of roads are closed including main highways,” Mayor Duff said.
“Many of these locations will remain closed this afternoon and through the night.
“Council will work with the Department of Transport and Main Roads tomorrow to reopen them when it is safe to do so, although some roads are expected to be closed for a number of days as water moves through the region.”
Mayor Duff said access to Murgon was currently restricted as the Bunya Highway remained closed at Krebs Bridge and the Burnett Highway was closed at Reedy Creek and Barambah Creek.
“These roads are not expected to reopen until tomorrow afternoon, and only if conditions remain favourable,” Mayor Duff said.
“A further update will be provided tomorrow morning. Access to Cherbourg from Murgon remains open.
“The community should monitor the Disaster Dashboard for updates on road conditions and observe road closure signage.
“Please consider your need to travel as the safety of residents and travellers is paramount.”
