The South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) upgraded its status on Monday morning to “Stand Up”.

The LDMG is continuing to monitor the current weather and deploy resources as required.

The region received heavy rainfall overnight and impacts to the road network with flash flooding have occurred.

Council has begun closures of bridges and roads and will continue as additional roads become impassable across the network.

A Council spokesperson said some roads might not have signs erected but Council officers would try to inspect these throughout the day.

Heavy weekend rainfall prompted the South Burnett Regional Council to issue a “Watch And Act” safety alert on Sunday evening.

The alert, sent to mobile phones about 9:00pm, warned residents not to drive unless necessary.

“Intense rainfall has fallen across the region, leading to flash flooding.”

Earlier, the South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group moved its status to Lean Forward.

“The LDMG are continuing to monitor the current weather situation and deploy resources as required,” a Council statement said.

“The region has already seen falls within our region between 90mm-170mm and the LDMG have this afternoon received an update from the Bureau (BOM) that it is expected to see another 50mm across the catchment with isolated falls of in excess of 100mm possible into late this evening.

“Impacts to our road network with flash flooding has occurred and will continue to see some further impacts leading into tonight and early hours in the morning.

“Council has commenced closures of roads with water inundation and will also commence pre-closures across the network as necessary.

“Closures may occur without notice however, the community should monitor the Disaster Dashboard for updates on road conditions and observe road closure signage.

“Proston-Boondooma Road is expected to close at 9:00pm or earlier at the Stuart River.

“Therefore, the LDMG are calling on all residents to keep up to date with the current weather predictions from the Bureau and ensure they have a plan should the conditions change.”

LDMG chair Mayor Kathy Duff urged residents to drive to conditions, and if it is flooded, forget it.

“Please think about your travel plans and if it is not urgent, please do not travel on our roads.”

The “Watch And Act” alert followed a “Stay Informed” advice notice issued at 4:30pm which warned that conditions could become dangerous.
