The Murgon Diggers were sporting their Pink Stumps Day caps in their game against Saints played on the Stables Field at Murgon Showgrounds … unfortunately for the home team, Saints proved too strong

March 6, 2026

Murgon Cricket Club wrapped up their senior season with a big Pink Stumps Day fundraiser for the McGrath Foundation last Saturday.

On the Friday night, the club hosted the finals of the social MPL Super 8s competition, then on Saturday there were two home games at Murgon Showgrounds: Day 2 of the Gympie A Grade game against Gympie Royals; and Murgon Diggers taking on ladder leaders Saints in the final round of the South Burnett senior competition.

In the morning, Murgon’s Stage 2 and Stage 3 junior teams were also in action.

All up, the weekend raised more than $2000 for the charity, through the sale of caps (donated by the Little Butcher in Kingaroy), raffles and money boards.

After taking out the Grand Final of the one-day Gympie A Grade competition earlier this year, the Wooroolin Warriors are after the season double.

Day 1 of the Two-Day Grand Final will be played this Saturday between Warriors and Gympie Harlequins at Jack Ison Oval in Gympie.

Warriors finished in top spot on the table with Murgon Crusaders in third position, despite the home team’s strong win over Gympie Royals at Murgon Showgrounds on Saturday.
