The Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR) and Telstra are inviting community groups to apply for grants of up to $10,000 through Round 4 of Telstra’s Connected Communities grant program.

The program aims to support locally led initiatives that strengthen digital inclusion, enhance community connection and resilience, and build sustainability and liveability in rural Australia.

The program, which has been running for four years, has already enabled about 70 not‑for‑profit organisations across Australia to upgrade digital infrastructure, deliver digital skills training, support disaster readiness and improve service delivery.

“Digital access is fundamental to community wellbeing and opportunity, whether you’re running a local service, volunteering, learning, caring for country or staying connected in times of crisis,” FRRR’s Jill Karena said.

Applications close on March 26.

    • Thank you, Andrew for the suggestion. Many years ago, we actually did develop an app and it was (very briefly) available in the Google Play Store. We quickly realised it was not displaying advertisements, so it was undercutting our loyal advertisers at the time as well as preventing us from receiving Google Adsense revenue.

However, the concept may be worth investigating again as we’re sure the technology has probably improved!

In the meantime, we suggest that people visit our Latest News feed in their mobile phone browser (ie. https://southburnett.com.au/news2/latest/) and go to their browser’s menu and select “Add to home screen” (or the equivalent). This will create a shortcut that takes you directly to the latest news, which will usually display quite nicely on most mobile phones.
