Renewable Energy Partners – the developers of the large Wambo Wind Farm – are in the early stages of exploring another possible renewable energy project in the South Burnett.
News about the proposed Chahpingah Wind Farm, which is in the very early stages of development, broke about the same time as Stanwell’s decision on the nearby Tarong West project (see separate report) also became known.
Carolyn Stone, from Ironpot, told southburnett.com.au about 30 local residents had formed a group to try to find out more about the Chahpingah project.
If it goes ahead, a windfarm at Chahpingah would add to the line of sites which stretch from Wambo and Coopers Gap through to the proposed Tarong West project.
South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff said she knew nothing so far about the proposal.
Work on the Wambo Wind Farm – a joint venture between Stanwell and Cubico Sustainable Investments – is moving ahead quickly.
Stage 1, which consists of 42 turbines, is expected to completed within months however power from the wind farm has already flowed into the grid.
Thirteen turbine towers have been erected so far in Stage 2, which will eventually consist of 41 turbines.
