A hail storm derailed last year’s Comedy For A Cause fundraiser for the Blackbutt & Benarkin Aged Care Association’s Greenhills Villas project.
A shortened version of the evening went ahead in November but the organisers were determined to reschedule, so a date was set: February 14.
It was all looking good for the promised night of fun … until BOM predicted a deluge.
Fortunately, the dire predictions didn’t materialise and the evening went ahead as planned on Saturday night at Blackbutt’s Memorial Hall.
Compere and association president Jeff Connor joked: If you need rain, just schedule a comedy night!
There were fun and games, encouraged by Jeff from the stage, as well as spot prizes, hamburgers and a licensed bar.
Volunteers Les Lane and Greg Lewis helped with an auction which included a number of donated artworks.
The three professional comedians, Craig Quartermaine, Mike Van Acker and Joshua Coutinho, then took over to finish the evening.
Jeff said the night had gone “fantastically well”.
He said the two fundraising events together had raised a total of about $17,000 towards the Greenhills Villas project.
The association was now planning to hold another comedy night next year, and maybe even make it an annual event.
He thanked the sponsors who had supported the evening as well as donating raffle prizes and auction items.
The association is raising funds to build independent living units on a vacant block of land in Railway Street, Blackbutt.
