Cr Jane Erkens with her badly damaged Hyundai at Proston on Sunday afternoon

January 25, 2026

Police are investigating a targeted vandalism attack against South Burnett councillor Jane Erkens.

Cr Erkens, who represents Division 1, said someone entered her Nanango property on Friday night and smeared paint stripper across her private car.

Every panel of the vehicle was damaged, with the chemical stripping paintwork in places down to bare metal.

Cr Erkens told southburnett.com.au she feared the car could be a write-off as thousands of dollars of damage had occurred.

The vandal also let down a tyre on the Hyundai sedan, as well as one on her campervan which was parked nearby.

Cr Erkens said the vandal may have been interrupted during the attack.

Fellow councillors were horrified when they saw the vehicle on Sunday afternoon at Council’s Australia Day awards at Proston, describing the targeting of their colleague as “despicable”.

Cr Erkens said the worst thing was that she was at home when someone had entered her property.

She has now had security cameras installed.
