Toowoomba Regional Council has approved a long-term extension of LifeFlight’s existing site at the Toowoomba Aerodrome.

“Under the new arrangement, LifeFlight’s future at the Aerodrome has been secured for up to 30 years,” Mayor Geoff McDonald said.

“LifeFlight provides critical aeromedical rescue and emergency services across our region, and this extension ensures they can continue their lifesaving work well into the future.

“In addition, LifeFlight has indicated it would like to expand its services to create a Visitor Experience and Education Centre, using the existing hangar and additional space for car parking.

“This would be a welcome addition from an organisation that already provides an extremely valuable service to our community.

“Although the existing lease wasn’t due for renewal until 2032, we acknowledge the great work they do and have agreed to an in-principle lease renewal that will provide long-term tenure for LifeFlight’s ongoing operations in Toowoomba.”

Council has given in-principle approval of two separate lease areas to LifeFlight – one commercial lease for operational facilities, and a community lease for charitable and educational facilities.

The decision was endorsed at TRC’s Ordinary Meeting on Tuesday.
