Police have charged two teenage boys with a total of 33 offences following a crime spree in the South Burnett on Tuesday.

It will be alleged the teenagers stole a 2011 Hyundai iX35 from Bjelke-Petersen Dam camping area on Monday night and a 2021 Mitsubishi Pajero and a 2023 Nissan Xtrail from Murgon on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s timeline of alleged crimes:

  • The Hyundai was found abandoned on the Bunya Highway at Murgon about 1:00am.
  • About 10:00am, a 64-year-old woman was allegedly threatened before an attempt was made to steal her vehicle from Cadell Street, Wondai. The Wondai woman was not physically injured.
  • Soon afterwards, the Mitsubishi Pajero was taken from Dutton Street, Murgon.
  • About 10:15am, it is alleged the boys unsuccessfully tried to pull a woman from her vehicle on Lamb Street in Murgon before leaving the scene. The 69-year-old Tablelands woman received injuries to her neck and was taken to Kingaroy Hospital for treatment.
  • About 10:25am, the boys allegedly approached a man riding a mobility scooter in Armstrong Street, Murgon, before stealing several bags and leaving the scene. The 85-year-old Murgon man was not physically injured.
  • About 10:40am, the Nissan Xtrail was stolen from a woman’s home in Shelton Street, Murgon.
  • About 11:00am, a Hyundai iLoad van – being driven along Cherbourg Road by a 55-year-old Tingoora woman – was struck with a screwdriver thrown from the stolen Mitsubishi. The screwdriver smashed the side window of the vehicle but the two women inside were not injured.

All three stolen vehicles have been recovered by police.

A 15-year-old Cherbourg boy faces 20 charges:

  • 4 x stealing
  • 4 x entering a dwelling with intent
  • 3 x unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • 2 x entering a dwelling and committing an indictable offence
  • 2 x attempted robbery
  • 1 x possess house-breaking implement
  • 1 x possess utensil
  • 1 x wilful damage
  • 1 x armed robbery
  • 1 x unlicenced driving.

A 14-year-old Cherbourg boy faces 13 charges:

  • 3 x stealing
  • 2 x unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • 2 x attempted robbery
  • 2 x entering a dwelling and committing an indictable offence
  • 1 x armed robbery
  • 1 x attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • 1 x robbery
  • 1 x wilful damage

Both boys were due to appear in Kingaroy Children’s Court on Wednesday.

Investigations are continuing.
