Santa looks set to have a very busy festive season, with the jolly man in red already popping up at activities around the South Burnett at the weekend.
On Sunday evening, it was Hivesville’s turn, with the local Progress Association hosting a sausage sizzle and festive celebration for local residents at the sports oval.
Santa arrived by hitching a ride on the back of a bright yellow Rural Fire Service truck with sirens blaring.
He then settled down in a chair on the oval to hand out lollies and presents to the kids.
It was an opportunity for the Progress Association to revive Christmas celebrations in Hivesville at a new location, as well as give their new chocolate wheel a spin!

Christmas Celebrations Around The Region
- December 4 – Carols By Candlelight, Kingaroy
From 6:30pm at the school hall in Ivy Street, Kingaroy. Bring along your battery-operated candle and your best singing voice for a festive night of family entertainment!
- December 5 – Blackbutt Christmas Festival
From 5:00pm at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall. Food, fun and festive cheer, including games and activities for the kids, a jumping castle, ham wheel, licensed bar and raffles plus the South Burnett Performing Arts Academy will present a free musical spectacular from 6:30pm with Julee-anne Bell, the Blackbutt Singers, Warren Gould and Stephanie Wimpenny.
- December 6 – Proston QCWA Community Christmas Carnival
From 5:00pm at Railway Park. There’ll be raffles, a sausage sizzle, hot chips, cold drinks, ice cream, coffee, Christmas craft stalls, a jumping castle, carols and Santa!
- December 6 – Kumbia Christmas Carnival
From 4:00pm next to the Kumbia Memorial Hall. There’ll be market stalls, a licensed bar, barbecue, ham wheel, a jumping castle and raffles (and a visit from Santa). There’ll be a prize for the best Christmas hat and music in the hall.
- December 7 – Yarraman Christmas Carnival
From 4:00pm at Errol Munt Reserve. There’ll be market stalls, food and drink, live music, free jumping castle, $10 unlimited dodg’em cars, free face-painting plus a fireworks display!
- December 7 – Christmas Carols, Murgon
From 6:00pm in the Rotunda in QEII Park in Lamb Street, Murgon. Bring along a chair and join in the night of carols.
- December 7 – Christmas Carols, Kingaroy
From 5:00pm at Kingaroy Town Hall. Food and drinks will be available to buy from 5:00pm with the carols getting under way at 6:00pm. “Grace Notes” has reformed for the evening, ie. Julee-anne Bell on lead vocals; Brett Chaseling on vocals and guitar; Gayle Pryce-Davies on keyboard and vocals; Carolyn Dingle on violin; and Matt Phillips on bass guitar.
- December 10 – Christmas Carols, Wondai
From 5:00pm in Coronation Park, Wondai. The Wondai QCWA and Community Choir will join with the Wondai Town & District Band to perform carols. There’ll be a free sausage sizzle put on by Wondai Lions plus ice creams and hot chips for sale. Santa is rumoured to be dropping in and there’s free lollies for the kids!
- December 11 – Kingaroy Christmas Carnival
From 4:00pm in Glendon Street, Kingaroy. There’ll be market stalls, rides, a fashion contest, entertainment, free face painting and a visit from Santa!
- December 14 – Bunya Mountains Christmas Evening
From 5:00pm at the re-opened Dandabah Picnic Grounds in Bunya Avenue. The Bunya Christmas Choir will be presenting carols and a reading of the Christmas story. There’ll also be face-painting for the children at 4:30pm.
- December 18 – Nanango Community Carols
From 7:00pm in the grounds of Ringsfield House, 41-45 Alfred Street, Nanango. There’ll be Christmas carols, drinks and food, children’s entertainment and a ham wheel.
- December 19 – Mondure Hall Christmas Twilight Street Party
From 5:00pm to 9:00pm at the Mondure Hall. There’ll be horse and buggy rides; a sausage sizzle, multi-draw raffle, free tea and coffee, free ice blocks for the kids (and Santa will be along, too!)
- December 20 – Wondai Christmas Carnival
From 5:00pm at the Wondai Showgrounds. There’ll be a ham wheel and chocolate wheel; market stalls, food and drinks, live entertainment and jumping castles.
NB. Unfortunately, the Goomeri Christmas Carnival, which had been scheduled to be held on Saturday night, was cancelled due to recent weather.
