Nominations are now open for the 2026 South Burnett Regional Youth Council.

Motivated young people aged 12 to 24 who live anywhere in the South Burnett and Cherbourg council areas have been invited to become part of the group.

Youth Council chair Cr Danita Potter said it was a great opportunity for young people to have a voice, give advice to Council in its decision-making and gain valuable leadership and personal development skills.

“The youth are integral in shaping the region’s future as it is their region and their future,” Cr Potter said.

“I have been very excited to be a part of Youth Council during 2025 and look forward to next year’s group.”

The Youth Council will consist of up to 20 members, aiming for a diverse representation of the youth population across the region.

As a Youth Councillor, members will:

  • Help organise youth and community events
  • Participate in the delivery of youth projects
  • Take part in self-development activities
  • Gain insights into how local government operates

Nominations close on Sunday, December 14. For more information or to apply, visit the South Burnett Regional Council website
