Seven people have been arrested after a surge in juvenile crime in Murgon this week which included five vehicles being stolen in the early hours of Wednesday.
Between midnight on Tuesday and 2:00am on Wednesday two small buses and two other vehicles belonging to South Burnett CTC – a Toyota HiAce, a Hyundai iMax, a Subaru Forester and a Mazda 3 – were stolen from Lamb Street, and a Mazda BT50 was damaged on site.
Three of CTC’s vehicles were later found damaged in Cherbourg: the HiAce was found at Cherbourg Cemetery about 4:40am; the Forester in Murray Road about 5:20am; and the iMax in Marshall Street about 6:30am. The fourth CTC vehicle, the Mazda 3, was found burnt out in Collins Road, Cherbourg, about 10:20am.
The fifth vehicle stolen from Murgon, a Mitsubishi Outlander, was taken from a private residence in Fryar Street, Murgon. It was located damaged in Barber Street, Cherbourg, about 4:15am.
The seven people who were arrested – after investigations by South Burnett detectives, Toowoomba Tactical Crime Squad and Murgon Police – were two adults and five juveniles:
- A 19-year-old Cherbourg man has been charged with four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three counts of trespass, and one count each of enter premises and commit indictable offence by break, attempted enter dwelling with intent by break, and attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He is due to appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on December 9.
- An 18-year-old Cherbourg man has been charged with four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three counts of trespass, and one count each of enter premises and commit indictable offence by break, attempted enter dwelling with intent by break, and attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He was due to appear in the Murgon Magistrates Court on Thursday (November 13).
- A 13-year-old Cherbourg boy has been charged with four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of enter premises and commit indictable offence and attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He was due to appear in Murgon Children’s Court on Thursday (November 13).
- A 15-year-old Cherbourg boy has been charged with six counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of trespass and enter premises and commit indictable offence by break, and one count of attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He is due to appear in Murgon Children’s Court on November 20.
- A 14-year-old Cherbourg boy has been charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of enter dwelling and enter premises and commit indictable offence by break. He was due to appear in Murgon Children’s Court on Thursday (November 13).
- Two Cherbourg boys, aged 14 and 13, have been dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
Investigations are continuing.

A local resident told southburnett.com.au he believed up to 15 people may have been involved in the latest incidents, with several groups recorded on private security cameras at the same time as stolen vehicles were circulating in the streets.
The recent incidents follow the theft earlier in the month of two vehicles from private homes in Taylor Street East, Murgon.
