History in the making … the Saints hit the ground running with a big win in their debut game

October 25, 2025

Cricketing history was made in the South Burnett this month with a brand new team entering the Senior Competition.

The Saints, as their name implies, includes players and ex-players of the South Burnett Saints Australian Rules team and they play in the Saints’ red, black and white colours.

Four of the team members of the cricketing Saints were also members of the inaugural Saints AFC club: Troy Miller, Brad Edwards, Nathan Trace and Josh Miller.

Troy told southburnett.com.au the friends decided to get a cricketing team together for the South Burnett competition after learning Tingoora intended to play in the Dalby competition this season.

The Saints began their 2025-26 journey in winning style, notching up victories in Rounds 1 and 2 of the South Burnett competition, downing Wooroolin Warriors and Nanango Scorpions.

Goodchild Shield

South Burnett Bush Pigs secured an easy victory over Gympie in Round 1 of the Goodchild Shield competition, played at Keith Manthey Oval in Gympie on October 19.

South Burnett won the toss and elected to bowl.

The decision paid off, with Gympie all out for just 63 runs in the 23rd over.

Tom Patton (4/14 off 7.5 overs, including four maidens), Kyron Tunstall (4/29 off 10), Tom Carney (1/1 off 1) and Luke Smith (1/19 off 4) did the damage.

The South Burnett took 11.5 overs to overtake the total for the loss of two wickets.

Opener Harry Sippel did most of the work, hitting 38 runs off 34 balls before being caught out.

Fletcher Brown (not out 11) and Lawson Black (not out 8) added the extras.
