Nanango’s annual celebration of rock’n’roll, The Heritage Waterhole Rocks, attracted a dazzling array of campervans and caravans to Nanango Showgrounds last week.
Visitors started rolling in as early as last Monday, although the festival officially kicked off on Wednesday night.
The special dancefloor erected in the covered area at the showgrounds always attracts serious dancers from rock’n’roll clubs from across south-east Queensland, but that didn’t stop a bit of “country” sneaking in, too, this year.
Line-dancing was popular as well as the more traditional “hop”-styles that require a partner (and often twirling polka dot dresses!).
“Nutbush City Limits” fans also enjoyed a turn or two on the floor.
The highlight on Saturday afternoon was a fashion parade, which had a definite 1950s rock’n’roll feel.
The nostalgia continued on Sunday when a classic car, hot rod and vintage caravan show was held in the showring.
It’s not all rock’n’roll at Waterhole Rocks … line dancers also filled the floor, and they even did “the Nutbush” at one stage!Waterhole Rocks founders Terry and Rhonda Mackrell (with the inevitable photobomber!)The Waterhole Rocks crew … from left, Terry and Rhonda Mackrell, Gloria Fleming, Wendy Mathews and Les Schloss (Photo: Jane Erkens)Volunteering at the bar were Warren Lamberton and Rebecca MoysesThe Dodgie Rockers, ie. Miss this. Living in Nanango since Terry and Rhonda started Waterhole Rocks, we enjoyed the music from home as well as being there. Great job everyone. May you rock on for many more years.
