UPDATE October 3: The South Burnett / Cherbourg fire ban has been extended to 11:59pm on Monday (October 6)
October 1, 2025
The Queensland Fire Department has imposed a local fire ban for residents living in eight more Council areas, including the South Burnett, Cherbourg, Gympie and North Burnett regions.
The local fire ban will begin at 12:01am on Thursday morning (October 2) and is expected to remain in place until 11:59pm on Friday, October 3.
Other council areas affected by this local fire ban are Fraser Coast, Bundaberg, Gladstone and Banana regions.
The latest announcement follows local fire bans announced earlier this week for adjoining Council areas:
- On Tuesday, a local fire ban was announced for residents in the Toowoomba, Southern Downs, Western Downs and Goondiwindi council areas from 12:01am on Wednesday morning (October 1).
- On Monday, a local fire ban was announced for residents in the Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Ipswich, Logan and Scenic Rim council areas from 12:01am on Thursday morning (October 2).
A QFD spokesperson said current fire conditions were perfect for bushfires to ignite and spread quickly.
Under a local fire ban all open fires are prohibited and all Permits to Light Fire which have been issued in the designated areas have been suspended for the duration of the ban.
Power tools may be used during a local fire ban, however QFD encourages people to use these with extreme care and ensure adequate equipment is available to extinguish any fire which may start.
This may include having a person available to watch out for any ignitions that occur.
Information on fire bans and the exemptions that can apply can be found on the QFD website
UPDATE October 2: The local fire ban declared in the Toowoomba, Southern Downs, Western Downs and Goondiwindi Local Government Areas will be cancelled from 11:59pm on Friday (October 3).
