The Queensland Fire Department has imposed a local fire ban for residents living in five council areas, including Somerset Regional Council.
The Somerset area includes Linville, Harlin and Jimna as well as larger towns such as Toogoolawah, Esk, Fernvale and Kilcoy.
The local fire ban will be in place from 12:01am on Thursday morning (October 2).
The ban will also cover residents in the Lockyer Valley, Ipswich, Logan and Scenic Rim council areas.
A QFD spokesperson said current conditions were perfect for bushfires to ignite and spread quickly.
Under a local fire ban all open fires are prohibited and all Permits to Light Fire which have been issued in the designated area have been suspended for the duration of the ban.
Power tools may be used during a local fire ban, however QFD encourages people to use these with extreme care and ensure adequate equipment is available to extinguish any fire which may start.
This may include having a person available to watch out for any ignitions that occur.
The ban is expected to remain in place until 11:59pm on Tuesday night (October 7).
UPDATE September 30: The fire ban has been extended to include residents in the Brisbane, Noosa, Moreton Bay, Redland, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast council areas.
