The Under 12 South Burnett Eagles were named Team Of The Carnival at last weekend’s Pete Rafter Memorial Challenge at Chinchilla.

The Eagles played Wattles, Lowood and Goondiwindi in the two-day round-robin event.

The junior rugby league carnival, hosted by the Chinchilla Bulldogs, honours the memory of former QRL Central Division club co-ordinator Pete Rafter who died in 2004 after more than a decade working with grassroots country clubs.

FLASHBACK: George Fisher Jnr at the Frank Fisher Memorial Cup Day in Cherbourg earlier this year

It’s been a big few weeks for Cherbourg Hornets player George Fisher Jnr.

First up, the Hornets won the South Burnett Rugby League Grand Final, downing the Kingaroy Red Ants 38-28 with Fisher scoring a try and kicking five conversions.

Then at the SBRL’s recent presentation day, Fisher was named as halfback in the 2025 South Burnett Team Of The Year as well as top goal kicker and top points scorer for 2025.

On Sunday (September 21), Fisher was the driving force behind the Hornets’ 32-22 victory over Darkies Connection in the Grand Final of the 2025 Queensland Murri Carnival played at the South Pine Sporting Complex in Brendale.

The annual Murri Carnival is organised by the Arthur Beetson Foundation with the support of the Queensland Rugby League and attracts Indigenous teams from across the State.

Fisher was not only named Player Of The Final but also Player Of The Carnival!
