South Burnett Regional Council has renewed the contract of CEO Mark Pitt for another four years.

Councillors endorsed the extension of Mr Pitt’s contract – from July 1, 2026, to July 3, 2030 – at the September 17 Council meeting.

Mark Pitt PSM has been the CEO of the South Burnett Regional Council since June 2018.

He has more than 22 years’ experience in CEO positions and in 2019 was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday honours with the Public Service Medal for his services to the community and local government.

“I am really pleased that firstly our CEO, Mark Pitt, was keen to renew his contract and that secondly it was a unanimous decision of Council to extend Mark’s contract for another four years,” Mayor Kathy Duff said.

“I know that this is a very important decision for our Council because to be successful we need to have both the operational arm and the elected representatives all working together and I believe that we have successfully achieved that over the last 12 months.

“This decision will help to create stability and continuity not only for our Council but for our whole region. I think this is an exciting time as we move forward with an experienced team, strong leadership and a clear vision for the future.”

Mr Pitt is the fifth CEO to serve at the SBRC since council amalgamations in 2008, and the first to have his contract extended.

Acting CEO Shane Gray steered council through the amalgamation process.

Mr Gray was succeeded by Tony Hayward (2008-2011), Ken McLoughlin (2011-2014) and Gary Wall (2014-2018).
