State Government has announced funding to upgrade the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail

September 24, 2025

The State Government plans to spend $1.6 million on upgrades to the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT).

The money is part of $3.5 million funded by the Department of Transport and Main Roads, which will be spent on four Queensland rail trails.

Other trails to receive a boost are the Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trail ($1.6 million), Pioneer Valley Rail Trail ($75,000) and Bundaberg to Gin Gin Rail Trail ($147,000).

Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg said the Rail Trail Program would increase visitation and economic activity in regional areas.

“Cycling tourism is growing rapidly, and rail trails play a vital role in supporting the economies of regional towns,” the Minister said.

southburnett.com.au understands that an application was made to seek funding for an upgrade to the Goomeri to Kilkivan section of the South Burnett Rail Trail but it was unsuccessful.
