Members of the Southern Cross Air Force enjoyed their annual visit to the Kingaroy Aero Modellers Society’s airfield at Booie on the weekend.

The SCAF flyers are all members of other aero modelling clubs but have one thing in common … a love of the aircraft which have been used by armed forces since World War I.

Models flying at the weekend include aircraft from both World Wars and later conflicts, including Vietnam.

The visit coincided with the Annual General Meeting on Sunday of the Kingaroy Aero Modellers Society.

Elected for 2025-26 were:

  • President/Secretary/Registrar/PR: John Box
  • Vice-President: Robert Maughan
  • Treasurer/ Maintenance Co-ordinator: Darryl Dove
  • Safety Officer: Mark Brazier
  • Training/Assessment and Assistant Safety Officer: Peter Somerfield
  • Members Representative/Canteen and Fun Fly event co-ordinator: Garry Jordan

President John Box said it had been another busy year for KAMS, with quarterly Fun Fly gatherings in March, June and December.

Competitors and onlookers enjoyed the Fun Fly competitions, which included spot landing, balloon-busting and streamer-cutting combat missions!

Members also enjoyed visits to other clubs.

The “KAMS Hilton” clubhouse was also rebuilt after a storm destroyed the first structure.

The current KAMS membership is 28 seniors, one junior and two associate members.

John Box was re-elected president/secretary of KAMS at the Annual General Meeting
Graydon Alcorn, from Caloundra, with his Morane-Saulnier AI, a French fighter aircraft produced during World War I
Roger Marshall, from Bundaberg, with his P51 Mustang, one of the most famous US aircraft from World War II
