A fire burning in the Taabinga area since Wednesday morning flared up on Thursday afternoon, sparking a bushfire alert from the Queensland Fire Department.
At 4:05pm, QFD warned local residents to “Stay Informed” about the fire, which was burning in bushland near the intersection of Kingaroy-Burrandowan and Boonenne-Ellesmere roads.
The alert advised residents that the fire was moving towards the Bunya Highway.
At one point, it jumped the highway and began burning in a property on the other side of the road.
At 4:00pm, 19 fire crews were at the blaze, including urban and rural crews.
The fire, which is believed to have begun as a controlled burn, spread rapidly through the timbered area before crossing into farmland.
Several fences were destroyed but no structures were damaged.
By 4:45pm, QFD had reduced the alert to “Avoid Smoke” but about a dozen fire crews were still on site.
All fire crews had left by 10:30pm, but firefighters will continue to patrol the area on Friday.
