Helicopters were brought in to help firefighters working to contain a large grass fire burning north of the Wondai CBD on Wednesday.
The fire broke out about 10:15am in bushland beside the Bunya Highway, between East Street and Burrows Street, north of the Wondai Industrial Estate.
It spread quickly southwards through the scrub.
At 11:43am, the Queensland Fire Department issued a “Stay Informed” bushfire alert to residents in the Wondai area, although the warning said no properties were under threat at that stage.
By 1:30pm, there were 17 fire crews in attendance, both urban and rural units.
Heavy machinery had also been brought in to create firebreaks.
At 5:44pm, QFD reported the fire was under control but issued an “Avoid Smoke” warning to residents.

Great response, well done to all involved.
