Nominations are now open for the South Burnett Regional Council’s annual Australia Day Awards for 2026.

The awards will be presented on Sunday, January 25, at 3:00pm in Proston Town Hall.

“The Australia Day awards are an excellent opportunity to acknowledge and reward those community members and groups that go above and beyond for our community and are committed to improving the lifestyle of our region,” Mayor Kathy Duff said.

“The award categories have been carefully chosen to provide equal opportunity for our diverse region, to nominate those who have made special contributions to their local community.”

Award categories are:

  • Citizen of the Year (selected from the winners of the Cultural, Senior Sportsperson, Administrator, Coach or Official, Volunteer of the Year and Local Achiever categories).
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Junior Cultural Award
  • Senior Cultural Award
  • Junior Sportsperson
  • Senior Sportsperson/Sports Administrator/Coach/Official Award
  • Community Event or Community Organisation of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Local Achiever Awards (Town & Rural)

The Awards are held on the eve of Australia Day to allow all nominees and attendees the chance to participate in the many Australia Day events that will be held on Australia Day, January 26, 2026.
