The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service is planning to begin a hazard reduction burn this week in Benarkin State Forest.

The planned burn is scheduled between Wednesday (September 3) and September 10, weather permitting.

Smoke may be seen in Benarkin township and on the D’Aguilar Highway.

“If visiting Benarkin State Forest, observe all signs, barriers, and directions from QPWS Rangers and never enter closed areas,” a QPWS spokesperson said.

“Avoid driving through smoke where possible and be aware of firefighters working in the area.

“Planned burns are vital in promoting ecological health, biodiversity and the conservation of species and habitats.

“They also aim to mitigate the risk and intensity of bushfires and their potential impacts on communities, infrastructure, parks and forests.”
