FLASHBACK: Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington with members of the South Burnett Pantry working group

September 3, 2025

The South Burnett Pantry will be hosting this month’s Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s meet’n’greet.

The get-together for local businesspeople will be held next Tuesday (September 9) at the Pantry’s outlet at Lot 3/1A Railway Terrace, Kingaroy.

The Pantry began in 2012 when Kingaroy residents came together to support families facing rising living costs.

Earlier this year, Pantry president Jim Bennett told southburnett.com.au that it had been set up originally to help farmers who had been hard hit by drought but it quickly grew into much more than this.

Over the years, the number of people it assists every day has grown and grown.

“It was set up so you don’t need to have a concession card,” Jim said.

“Farmers are often asset rich but cash poor. One-quarter of the people who come here now don’t have concession cards – they are the working poor.”

To ensure the future sustainability of the project, which is a vital lifeline for many South Burnett residents, a working group has been set up.

Guest speakers at the meet’n’greet will be working group chair Ruth Dukes and members Cheryl Dalton and Jason Erbacher, as well as Jim.

Cost to attend the meet’n’greet is $15 for KCCI members or $20 for non-members.
