Police searching for missing Brisbane man Andrew Burow have located human remains at Brooklands-Pimpimbudgee Road near Maidenwell.
Police and SES volunteers blocked off a section of the road on Tuesday, and it was still closed on Wednesday afternoon.
At the same time, police forensic officers were also searching an area near the D’Aguilar Highway on the Blackbutt Range.
A police spokesperson said both areas had been declared crime scenes.
Andrew Burow, 56, disappeared from Kelvin Grove on August 21.
His out-of-character disappearance was reported to police three days later.
On August 27, Brisbane detectives established Operation Veer to investigate.
On Monday, police appealed for information relating to three vehicles and locations of interest, including roads around Blackbutt.
A police spokesperson said that following the appeal, a Crime Stoppers report was received regarding a fire being sighted in the Blackbutt area about 4:00am on August 26.
This information led to crime scenes being established along Brooklands-Pimpimbudgee Road and in bushland along the D’Aguilar Highway.
The spokesperson said the human remains were yet to be formally identified, however, investigators had been in contact with Mr Burow’s family.
Forensic examinations are continuing.
Investigators are continuing to seek information about three vehicles of interest which have been seized by police:
- A black 2010 BMW X3 (Qld rego 802-NX4),
- A black 2011 Ford Ranger utility (false Qld rego 257-LX8), and
- A silver 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander wagon (Qld rego 385-KU2).
Anyone who may have seen the vehicles, including anyone with relevant footage or dashcam of the vehicles in the Brisbane, Ipswich, Yarraman, Blackbutt or Sunshine Coast areas between Thursday, August 21, and Tuesday, August 26, are urged to contact police.
Earlier, police declared crime scenes at Lorimer Terrace, Kelvin Grove; Kokoda Avenue, Bli Bli; Black Pinch Road, Pomona; and Kamala Drive, Lake Macdonald.
A burnt mobile phone and zip ties were allegedly found at the Bli Bli site.
Specialist police, including dive squad officers, also assisted with the search.
Brisbane Regional Crime Co-ordinator, Detective Acting Superintendent Craig Williams, thanked the media and public for their assistance.
“Every piece of information provided to police is crucial for this investigation,” he said.
“Police will continue to utilise every avenue available to us until we have answers.”
Police investigating the disappearance have charged two men – Billy Howard, 26, from North Lakes; and Anthony Perrett, 48, from Sippy Downs – with one count each of torture.
The pair have not sought bail and are due to reappear in court on October 13. They have not been charged with any other offence.
Anyone with information that may assist investigations should contact police immediately on 131-444.
