Milla Brown with her winning painting, “Technicolor Horse”,  in the 16-18 Years category

August 15, 2025

The future of art in the South Burnett is in safe hands if the works on display at the Wondai Regional Art Gallery this month are evidence.

The gallery is filled with paintings, pottery and sculptures by young South Burnett artists in the gallery’s biennial Junior Art Competition, sponsored this year by Bendigo Bank.

Proud parents, carers and friends filled the gallery for the recent opening night and the announcement of the prize winners.

Cash prizes were awarded in four age groups in both the 2D (paintings and photographs) and 3D (pottery and sculptures)  categories (see prize winners, below).

Deputy Mayor and gallery patron Cr Ros Heit said the artworks were very impressive.

Gallery co-ordinator Elaine Madill said the judge, artist Sue Lederhose, had told her she would have liked to have been able to hand four times the number of prizes.

The exhibitions will remain on display until 3:00pm on Sunday, August 31.
