The streets of Kingaroy are starting to sizzle … BaconFest is almost here and the Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce & Industry wanted to make sure everyone knows it!
The KCCI invited local businesses to “ham up” their windows to promote the festival, and 19 decided to go the whole hog.
Judges spent last week carefully checking out the various displays before naming the winner: St John’s Lutheran School’s entry, “Bacon Airlines”, flew away with the top prize.
The admin area at the school, oops “Sizzle International”, has arrival gates, flight times and a baggage check-in point for people visiting “Bacon Country”. There’s even a “definitely true” history of this land where “pink isn’t just a colour, it’s a lifestyle!”
Second prize went to “Troy Cassar-Bacon & the Five Rashers” at the Studio J hair salon at 152 Haly Street.
KCCI secretary Paula Greenwood said the quality of the entries was higher than previous years.
“We congratulate all of the businesses that entered,” she said.
“Also, I would like to thank other businesses that did not enter the competition but have pigged up their businesses for the BaconFest event on August 15-16.
“The locals and tourists will be impressed with Kingaroy and the South Burnett.
“The judges trotted around last week to view all displays and had a hard time ‘pigging out’ the best.
“KCCI would like to thank everyone for the time and effort that was put into their displays, and the judges.”
Entries into the competition were free, and the KCCI donated the prizes.
First prize was $150 worth of BaconFest merchandise; and second prize was $100 worth of merchandise.
