Toowoomba Hospital was forced to reschedule eight non-urgent elective surgeries on Tuesday and Wednesday this week due to the number of respiratory cases Darling Downs Health is currently dealing with.

Queensland Health data shows that hospitalisations for influenza continued to rise during the the past week with the expected peak yet to be reached.

On July 20, Darling Downs Health was treating 26 patients in hospital with COVID-19 (the second highest number in the State),  20 patients with influenza and seven with Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).

A Queensland Health spokesperson said 3650 flu cases were recorded last week in Queensland, the highest number so far this year.

Since the start of the year, 3915 people have been hospitalised with flu; of these 88 per cent were not vaccinated.

A total of 1195 COVID-19 cases were reported last week in Queensland, taking the total for the year to 25,070.

Since the start of the year, 5050 people have been hospitalised with COVID-19; of these 92 per cent were not up-to-date with their vaccinations.
