Two young women from Cherbourg have been presented with South Burnett First Nations scholarships by Stanwell.

Sienna Murray and Mia Sandow are both studying at QUT in Brisbane.

They were presented with their scholarships in a small ceremony recently at The Ration Shed precinct in Cherbourg.

A Stanwell spokesperson said the corporation had originally planned to provide one scholarship to an outstanding student, but with two stand-out applications, it decided to offer two scholarships instead.

The scholarships are designed to empower First Nations students from the South Burnett in their pursuit of university education.

They were made possible through a collaboration between the Wakka Wakka Native Title Aboriginal Corporation Board, Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council, Cherbourg Elders Advisory Group and the education community.

Stanwell General Manager Southern Generation Mick Joy said Stanwell was proud to have been able to award two scholarships to two outstanding young leaders to help amplify the impact of the scholarship.

“We are honoured to support Sienna and Mia as they begin this exciting journey,” Mr Joy said.

“As part of the scholarship, Sienna and Mia will also receive mentoring and vacation work opportunities at Stanwell during their university holidays, providing them with real-world experience and a strong connection to future energy career pathways.

“Sienna and Mia’s passion is inspiring, and we look forward to seeing the impact they will make on campus, in their communities, and potentially in the energy sector.”

Sienna said she was grateful for the scholarship and encouraged anyone thinking about applying for it to do it.

“The scholarship has opened up new pathways for me and created exciting opportunities for my future career,” she said.

“If you have a goal, believe in yourself and keep going. You can achieve anything.”
