U10s Kingaroy Red Ants Kingston Smallwood, Jace Moore and Guy Playford were having fun at the Mini-Mods Carnival

July 25, 2025

Nine fields, 85 teams, 20 clubs, more than 200 games played and 1121 buckets of chips sold … that sums up nicely the Wondai-Proston Wolves’ massive Mini-Mods carnival last Saturday at Wondai Sportsground.

Teams from Under 6s through to Under 12s had heaps of fun – and were kept very busy – playing short, round-robin games with modified rules.

All South Burnett rugby league clubs fielded teams which competed against a string of visitors from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast.

The young players get to play against unfamiliar teams, something they don’t experience during the regular weekly South Burnett junior competition.

Because of the junior rules, no results were recorded but that didn’t dampen any enthusiasm for scoring plenty of tries!

The Mini-Mods is always one of the biggest days on the South Burnett’s sporting calendar and this year’s event didn’t disappoint with a team of volunteers working hard to host another huge event.

Members of the Under 10s and Under 12s Nanango Stags were enjoying a big day of footy

Karlee and Adam Howell were supporting the Blackbutt Timbertowners

Sophie Arndt and Alora Muller with Sadie, 11 months; Georgia Cullen, 6; and Kiaya Muller, 5
Rikki Edwards, from Nanango, and Amy Moore, from Kingaroy, with a bunch of Under 10s and Under 6s
Stephen Simpson and Phil Fisher with Under 10s Murgon and Cherbourg players
Games from U6s through to U12s were played across nine fields at the Wondai Sportsground
Colourful gazebos from the 20 clubs competing were dotted around the sportsground
