The State Government has announced a much-needed boost in social housing for the South Burnett.
Thirty new social and community homes in Nanango and 11 in Kingaroy are either in construction or under contract, a spokesperson said on Friday.
These are on top of the construction of 23 new homes announced in the recent Cherbourg Council Budget.
A government spokesperson said a record $5.6 billion would be invested to deliver new social and community housing over the next four years in Queensland.
Across the Wide Bay-Burnett, more than 290 social and community homes were in construction or under contract to be delivered, including:
- 157 homes in the Bundaberg region
- 93 homes in the Fraser Coast
- 41 homes in the South Burnett
Minister for Housing Sam O’Connor said social and community housing developments were critical to create stable and sustainable communities that support economic and social inclusion.
“The Crisafulli Government’s first Budget delivers $5.6 billion for social and community housing, the biggest investment Queensland has ever seen,” Minister O’Connor said.
“It means more accessible, secure homes for people with disability, and more Queenslanders having a place they can call home.”
The recent State Budget also locked in baseline funding of $500 million per year from 2029-30, creating a long-term pipeline of social and community homes for Queenslanders most in need.
