The State Government has passed legislation which mandates public consultation for large-scale solar farms and wind farms in Queensland.

The projects will be “impact assessable” which means a Development Application will have to be lodged with the relevant local council and a public notification process undertaken.

A community benefit agreement must also be struck between proponents and local governments.

Local Government Association of Queensland CEO Alison Smith said legislation enshrining community benefit had been a long-held desire by councils.

“We thank the State Government for listening to councils and giving local government a seat at the table for their communities,” Ms Smith said.
