The South Burnett Regional Council adopted a new South Burnett Local Disaster Group Structure and the Local Disaster Management Plan at its May meeting.
The Disaster Management Plan – and its regular review – are required by legislation.
“I’m pleased that we’ve completed the review of our Local Disaster Management Plan and its sub-plans. Regular reviews are vital, and plans must be updated annually and undergo a more detailed review every three years, in line with the requirements set by the Inspector-General Emergency Management,” Disaster Management chair Cr Danita Potter said.
The plans covers prevention, preparedness, response and recovery procedures for local and major disaster events.
“While the document is quite detailed, its primary focus is operational, clearly outlining our approach to prevention, preparedness, response and recovery,” Disaster Management Officer Donna Brown said.
“Although disasters may not occur frequently, having a robust plan and well-trained staff ensures we are ready to support our communities effectively when it matters most.”
