Former Cherbourg mayor Elvie Sandow has been appointed to the Queensland Local Government Grants Commission.
The independent Commission provides advice on the distribution of Commonwealth Financial Assistance Grants to Queensland’s 77 local councils.
The appointment of Aunty Elvie was one of several announced by the State Government on Thursday.
Former Southern Downs Mayor Vic Pennisi will take on a lead role as the newly appointed chairperson for the Commission, while former Flinders Shire mayor Jane McNamara and former Cook Shire mayor Peter Scott will also serve as members.
The new appointees will each serve a three-year-term.
They join existing Commission deputy chairperson Joshua Hannan and member Jan Pool.
“Vic Pennisi, Jane McNamara, Peter Scott and Elvie Sandow bring a wealth of professional experience and local government expertise to their new roles,” Local Government Minister Ann Leahy said.
