The Dandabah Picnic Area and Visitor Information Centre at the Bunya Mountains is about to get a $6.46 million facelift.

The project, which will also include new walking trails and accessible amenities, was announced on Monday by Environment and Tourism Minister Andrew Powell.

He said there would also be more space for campers, but none of the iconic bunya pines would be removed.

“We are committed to unlocking the untapped potential of eco-tourism in Queensland, and encouraging more visitors to enjoy our natural assets while prioritising sustainability,” Minister Powell said.

Member for Nanango and Attorney-General Deb Frecklington welcomed the upgrades.

“This funding for brand new facilities will entice more visitors to explore and enjoy our unique region,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“Enhancing the grounds and establishing a new information centre will boost local tourism and support local businesses.”
