Nanango councillor Jane Erkens appears to have had a win over a mail delivery issue affecting a small group of residents in two local streets,

Cr Erkens said residents living in Grey Street and Home Street in Nanango suddenly stopped receiving mail deliveries last month.

The two roads are gravel however they are within a kilometre of Nanango Post Office, so the decision to stop deliveries puzzled both Cr Erkens and the residents involved.

Cr Erkens said she had received four complaints from different people when they suddenly noticed they were no longer receiving any mail.

“No one notified them. It was only after they went into the Post Office because they hadn’t had mail and were concerned, that they were informed they were no longer delivering because they are on a gravel road,” Cr Erkens said.

Cr Erkens said some of the residents had health issues and relied on the mail for important notifications about medical appointments.

Another had become concerned when a bill he had been expecting had not turned up.

Cr Erkens said she took the residents’ concerns about the Australia Post issue straight to the office of local Federal MP David Littleproud.

“Mr Littleproud’s staff were very helpful,” Cr Erkens said.

A short time afterwards, Cr Erkens was contacted back and assured the mail deliveries would resume straight away.

“As I was unable to contact the Post Office directly by phone, I had no option but to go to our Federal MP,” Cr Erkens said.

She said she was very grateful for the assistance she had received from Mr Littleproud’s office.
