Councillors James O’Shea and Kerry Shine – part of the current team assigned by Toowoomba Mayor Geoff McDonald to look after the “north zone” of the massive TRC area – spent last Friday visiting Yarraman.
It was an opportunity for the pair to catch up with residents and local associations.
They were hosted by Yarraman Heritage Centre committee members Frank Hodgkinson, Angela Apperley and Tania Paul.
The councillors met members of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Users Association, Yarraman Bowls Club, Yarraman SES and the Yarraman Swimming Club.
They also inspected the recent upgrades at the Yarraman Swimming Pool and toured the Heritage Museum.
During their visit to the museum, they dropped into the Wild Horse FM studios for a quick interview and to meet members of the Yarraman P-9 State School Radio Club.
“It’s just an opportunity to know who we are and a chance for us to know the people in that community as well and make that connection,” Cr O’Shea told Wild Horse FM.
“We understand that sometimes it can be difficult for people in some of the regions further away from the centre of Toowoomba to know who represents them or who they can talk to.
“This is a great opportunity for us to meet people.”
Cr Shine said they would be making these visits on a regular basis.
He invited residents to contact him – or the other North Zone councillors Cr O’Shea or Cr Carol Taylor – if they wanted to discuss things in person.
Cr O’Shea said the three councillors assigned to a zone would be rotated every calendar year.
“By the end of this council term, everybody in Yarraman will have the experience of meeting every councillor,” he said.
