South Burnett Rugby League is ecstatic about the results of their two U13s Eagles sides which travelled to Toowoomba at the weekend to compete in the Walker Weekend Challenge.

The annual event is hosted by the Toowoomba Valleys JRL club.

The South Burnett Under 13 girls – competing together for the first time as a team – played extremely well, winning their three round games and keeping all teams scoreless against them until the Grand Final.

The girls were solid in attack and their teamwork was cohesive for a newly formed side.

On Saturday, they defeated Souths 44-0, Brothers / Newtown 12-0 and Highfields 16-0.

Backing up on Sunday, they defeated Gatton in the semi-final, 12-0.

The South Burnett girls waltzed into the Grand Final against Valleys who were also playing with plenty of confidence.

The girls played their hearts out and with great sportsmanship in the grand final, competed to the final whistle, suffering their first and only loss for the weekend, finishing 12-4 but Division 1 runners-up!

Coach Kyal Dennis said he was very happy with the energy the girls had shown in their games and was super impressed by their teamwork and their sportsmanship.

Jo-Kayla Hopkins was awarded Best Back of the carnival and was named number 6 in the All Dream Team.

While the girls were dominating in their competition, the Under 13 boys were also enjoying success, racking up impressive scores against their opposition sides.

This next generation of male Eagles, coached by Nathan Prain, showed great spirit and teamwork to be very competitive:

They made the Grand Final racking up wins along the way against Gatton 12-4; Highfields Gold 12-4; Souths Black 48-0 and Roma 8-4.

The boys then won a spirited semi-final against Dalby 16-4.

The Grand Final was a tight affair with the South Burnett Eagles winning the game 4-0 against home side Valleys.

Lakiri Renouf was named Best Back of the carnival. He was also named in the All Dream Team, alongside Lockyer Sandow and Mikey Smallwood.

The South Burnett Rugby League are very proud of the efforts of their teams and the sportsmanship shown.
