The South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) moved to Alert status on Tuesday in response to Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

The cyclone is forecast to cross the south-east Queensland coast at Category 2 strength late on Thursday or early on Friday.

The South Burnett should not see a direct impact from the cyclone.

Council has asked the community to remain calm, but be prepared.

LDMG chair Cr Danita Potter urged residents to put emergency kits together if they have not already done so.

“Please visit the Get Ready Queensland website for more information on what to pack in your kit,” Cr Potter said.

“Ensure you are tidying your yards and tie down loose objects.

“Council is currently working with SES to ensure we have sandbags available over the coming days.

“The LDMG will continue to work with partner agencies including the Bureau and Queensland Police to provide updates to the community as required. We will monitor the conditions and cyclone track maps over the coming days.”
