South Burnett junior cricketers turned pink for a day last weekend to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation’s breast care nurses.

Pinks Stumps Day fundraisers were held alongside Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 junior cricket games at Kumbia, Nanango and Kingaroy.

There were lots of pink tutus to be seen as well as pink treats to buy and enjoy.

McGrath Breast Care Nurses help individuals and their families affected by breast cancer.

In the South Burnett, the local McGrath Nurse is Sue Cox who said every dollar raised in the South Burnett comes back here.

SB Senior Results

  • Wondai Wolves (5/244) defeated Tingoora Vikings (170 all out) in an upset at Tingoora Sportsground.

This is the first game that ladder leaders Vikings have lost this season.

Wolves won the toss and elected to bat.

At the end of their 40 overs, Wondai had set a strong target for the loss of just five wickets.

Opener Nathan Nixon top-scored with 86 runs off 90 balls, including 14 fours on the short Tingoora boundaries.

Lyndon Hopkins also dominated the Vikings’ bowlers hitting a quickfire 71 off 31 balls, including five fours and five sixes.

Jeremy Hobbs (27) and  Logan Steinhardt (26) also added to the scoreboard.

Trevor Hansen (3/63 off eight overs) was the best of the Vikings’ bowlers.

In reply, Tingoora opener Brett Simpson started strongly with 42 runs with Tavis Hartwig next best on 40.

Seven Wondai bowlers took wickets, with Lyndon Hopkins (2/19 off six overs) finishing with the best figures.

SB Rep Cricket

Bundaberg (3/203) defeated the combined South Burnett / Gympie team in the Under 16s Grand Final of the Wide Bay Intercity Challenge, played at Maryborough on Sunday. 

SB/Gympie won the toss and elected to bat.

They were all out for 199 in the 49th over.

Darcy Millard (35) and Douglas Hoare (31) were the top-scorers.

Bundaberg overtook the target in the 40th over for the loss of three wickets.

Toby Young took 1/27 and was also involved in a runout.

Gympie A Grade 

Murgon Crusaders defeated Wooroolin Warriors by three wickets on Day 2 of their final round Gympie A Grade competition match at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy.

Murgon won the toss and elected to bowl.

At stumps on Day 1, Warriors were all out for 174 with Murgon 1/75.

Murgon declared on Day 2 at 7/326 after Brenton Polzin clocked up his century (100 not out).

Daniel Thompson (55) and Nathan Roderick (53) also notched up half-centuries.

The two sides will meet again this weekend in the Grand Final of the two-day competition.
