Murgon detectives and officers from the State Flying Squad have charged two teenage boys over the bashing of an elderly couple in Murgon earlier this month.

Police will allege that about 10:20pm on January 15, a group entered a property in Wallace Street, attempted to break into two vehicles parked in a carport then entered the home and assaulted an 80-year-old man and a 76-year-old woman.

The pair were transported to hospital in a stable condition.

On Tuesday, after extensive investigations, detectives arrested a 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy in Cherbourg.

The 14-year-old has been charged with two counts each of assault causing grievous bodily harm, armed robbery in company, arson of a motor vehicle, enter a dwelling and commit an indictable offence; and single counts of attempted armed robbery, enter dwelling with intent by break at night in company, unlawful use of a motor vehicle at night in company, wilful damage and driving a motor vehicle without a licence.

The 15-year-old has been charged with two counts of assault causing grievous bodily harm and one count each of enter dwelling and commit, and wilful damage.

Both teenagers are expected to appear in Murgon Children’s Court on February 20.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
