Wambo Wind Farm owners and construction companies involved in the project have doubled down on road safety following several incidents near the site, including a fatal crash in November.
The driver involved was travelling to work at the wind farm project when his vehicle rolled near the intersection of Jandowae Connection Road and Old Burrandowan Road.
Local residents have also reported incidents involving trucks on Kingaroy-Jandowae Road and the Bunya Highway over the past few months.
“Wambo Wind Farm owners Cubico and Stanwell, EPC contractor Vestas and principal civil contractor Bielby are redoubling our commitments to road safety,” a project statement said.
“We want all our workers and neighbours to get home safely.
“The vast majority of drivers working on and delivering to our project do the right thing, actively looking out for each other and other road users when driving.
“But it only takes one instance of unsafe driving to cause irreparable damage. That is why Wambo Wind Farm has a zero-tolerance approach to unsafe driving.
“Drivers who do the wrong thing on the roads are not welcome at our project. Where we have identified drivers doing the wrong thing, they have been removed from the project.
“Identifying dangerous drivers is something everyone can help with.
“The project will be using dashcams in an effort to promote safe driving and identify instances of dangerous driving so that those responsible can be removed from our project.
“Dashcams will be placed in many project vehicles and loaned to other local road users.
“If you are willing to be part of our road safety monitoring effort by having a dashcam in your vehicle, please contact us.
“Contractors and suppliers associated with the project are also stepping up their efforts, with measures including the roll-out of In-Vehicle Monitoring Systems to improve safety culture and monitor compliance by drivers.”
The safety issues follow separate concerns expressed by South Burnett councillors about Council roads being damaged by Wambo Wind Farm traffic.
