Firefighters threw a rescue line to help a man aged in his 60s trapped on the roof of a vehicle caught in floodwaters at Ellesmere on Tuesday night.

A woman who had been inside the vehicle managed to get out and was found holding on to a barbed wire fence.

A QAS spokesperson said both were transported to Kingaroy Hospital in a stable condition as a precaution.

The emergency call came in just before 8:15pm for a vehicle caught in floodwaters near Kumbia and Parker roads at Ellesmere.

A QFD spokesperson said that when firefighters arrived on the scene, the water was above the bonnet of the vehicle.

Rescuers tossed a throw-bag line – which includes a personal flotation device – to the man on the roof of the vehicle, before pulling him to safety.

Fire crews were called out again about 6:20am on Wednesday after fears someone may have been missing in floodwaters at Brooklands.

An empty vehicle was spotted near Boldery and Nanango-Brooklands roads.

A search of the area began until police confirmed the occupant was safe.

The driver had abandoned the vehicle and walked through the water to safety.
