Emergency crews scrambled to help after reports a vehicle was stranded in floodwaters at Brooklands on Monday night.

A police spokesperson said an emergency call was made at 9:36pm after the vehicle became stranded on Kingaroy-Cooyar Road, near the intersection with Kumbia Road.

Police officers, a fire crew and QAS paramedics responded to the incident but the man had freed himself from the vehicle.

Paramedics assessed him at the scene but he declined transport to hospital.

Emergency crews remained until “road closed” signs were erected by council.

The site, a low creek crossing. is a notorious spot for flash flooding, particularly after heavy rain in the Bunya Mountains area.

Earlier in the evening, the Bureau of Meteorology reported the following rainfall totals:

  • 82mm  at Cooyar Creek in the one hour to 7:54pm
  • 82mm at Brooklands in the two hours to 7:45pm
  • 73mm at Mt Mowbullan in the one hour to 6:45pm
  • 56mm at Dandabah in the 30 minutes to 6:25pm
  • 62mm at Yarraman in the one hour to 8:25pm
  • 46mm at Mt Binga in the 30 minutes to 7:50pm
