The Rotary Club of Kingaroy has been a long-time sponsor of the Kingaroy State High School’s Academic Bursary Program which supports Year 12 graduates pursuing tertiary education.

Each recipient receives $1000 annually for up to four years of study, easing the financial burden and allowing students to focus on their academic and professional development.

Earlier this week, four of the five current bursary recipients attended a Rotary dinner meeting to share their progress:

  • Abbey (Class of 2022) is now in her second year of Agricultural Science at UQ and has been gaining practical experience working at E.E. Muir & Sons in Kingaroy. This hands-on learning has reinforced her studies and prepared her for a future in agribusiness.
  • Charlotte (Class of 2023) has completed her first year of Medicine in Townsville. She particularly enjoyed studying reproduction this year and is looking forward to a placement at an obstetrics and gynaecology clinic over the holidays.
  • Flynn (Class of 2021) is in his third year of Chemical Engineering at UQ. He has decided to specialise in environmental engineering and has undertaken valuable work placements at the Tarong Power Station and a local mine this year.
  • Rory (Class of 2024) is preparing to study Law at the University of the Sunshine Coast next year.

While Zach (Class of 2022) could not attend the meeting due to a medical placement in Emerald, he is completing his second year of university and making strides toward his future in medicine.

The bursary program is already showing long-term success, with two past recipients having completed their degrees.

The initiative not only provides financial assistance but also fosters a lasting connection between students and the Rotary Club, with regular updates and mentoring opportunities.

In addition to the bursary program, the Rotary Club of Kingaroy is heavily involved in youth development initiatives, including youth exchange programs.

They are set to sponsor Hamish for a life-changing exchange to Norway in 2026, further demonstrating their commitment to shaping future global citizens.

The school community has expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the Rotary Club of Kingaroy for their support, which continues to open doors for students and inspire them to achieve greatness.
