Lachlan Cullen despatches another ball to the boundary for Nanango Scorpions

Nanango Scorpions were too strong at home for Tingoora Huntsmen in their Round 7 South Burnett Senior cricket game at Alan Downie Sportsfields on Saturday.

Scorpions won the toss and elected to bat.

At the end of their 40 overs, Nanango were 7/374.

Lachlan Cullen dominated the Huntsmen bowlers, hitting 184 runs, including 22 fours and 8 sixes!

Joe Carney also was strong, notching up 77 runs off 77 balls, while Thomas Town enjoyed a half-century, 53 runs off 21 balls.

Nicholas Johannessen as the pick of the Tingoora bowlers, taking 4/48 off six overs.

In reply, Johannessen opened for Huntsmen and top-scored with 13 runs.

Tingoora were all out for 55 in the 29th over.

Nanango bowlers shared the honours: Simon Morrow 3/4 off 1.4; Nicholas Scherger 3/10; and Abby Burrows 3/20.

The South Burnett Senior cricket competition will be swapping into its summer mode this weekend, with teams playing two T20 games on Saturdays.

Goodchild Shield

The unbeaten South Burnett Boars will be taking on Fraser Coast in the last round of the Goodchild Shield competition on Sunday at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy.

Selected for the South Burnett are: Trent Riddell, Fletcher Brown, Samuel Dennien, Nathan Roderick, Jarred Sippel, Matthew Dugdell, Lochlan Burrows, Kieran Askin, Riley Sippel, Nick Sanewski, Tom Carney and Tom Currin.

The Grand Final of this competition will be played on January 19.

Round 2 of the Wide Bay Junior Intercity Challenge was played at Murgon Showgrounds on Sunday.

Under 12s and Under 14s South Burnett teams took on teams from Gympie.

  • South Burnett U12s (4/68) def. Gympie U12s (8/67) by one run
    Mitchell Stretton (15 not out); Deegan Johannessen (3/6)
  • South Burnett U14s (125 all out)  def. Gympie U14s (76 all out) by 49 runs
    Darcy Harmsworth (47); Hudson Murphy (3/7)

The following Under 14s players have been selected to represent the South Burnett against Bundaberg in the Round 3 of the Wide Bay Intercity Challenge on Sunday in Murgon:

Opener Nathan Roderick (30) notched up the necessary runs for Crusaders.
