Durong grazier Georgie Somerset has been presented with the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) 2024 Queensland Gold Medal.

The Gold Medal recognises excellence in governance.

A spokesperson said the AICD was proud to honour the high standards of governance and leadership that Ms Somerset had demonstrated throughout her directorial career.

“Georgie is a highly respected leader across a range of not-for-profit, industry and government roles,” the spokesperson said.

“She is an experienced director and consultant working in agribusiness, regional development and marketing.

“Georgie has been a director with the Queensland section of the Royal Flying Doctors Service since 2016, and Chair since 2023.

“She has been with AgForce Queensland for more than a decade, serving as General President for the past six years.

“She’s a director on the ABC Board, the National Farmers Federation and the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal, and Chair of Red Earth Community Foundation.”

Queensland Division Council president Luckbir Singh congratulated Ms Somerset and said the award provided an opportunity to honour and celebrate a member who had demonstrated a longstanding commitment to excellence and leadership.

“Georgie has been an outstanding Queensland company director who has made a significant contribution to the community,” Mr Singh said.

“As a Fellow of the AICD she has upheld good governance and high ethical standards in her personal, business and public life, contributing to strengthening society as a company director and citizen of Queensland.”

The award was presented at the AICD’s Queensland annual dinner in Brisbane last Thursday.
