A “Backseat SleepOut” held in Brisbane on Thursday night has raised more than $52,000 for the Property Industry Foundation (PIF), an industry body supporting a homelessness project in Kingaroy.

More than 50 industry members slept in the backseat of their cars at the inaugural event to raise awareness about homeless youth.

PIF State Manager Antoinette Rusby-Perera said the funds raised would go towards transitional housing projects across the State.

“One of the avenues that the funds raised from last night’s event will go towards is our soon-to-be completed Haven House Project in Kingaroy,” Ms Rusby-Perera said.

Managed by South Burnett CTC, the project provides much needed transitional housing for young people in the South Burnett region.

“Homes such as Haven House Kingaroy are critical for addressing the urgent need for safe housing and with the main drivers of homelessness being domestic and family violence2, this purpose-built
property will contribute to the protection and wellbeing of Queensland’s most vulnerable,” Ms Rusby-Perara said.

CTC CEO Jason Erbacher said the organisation was excited to partner with the Property Industry Foundation on this amazing project which was on track to open before the end of the year.
