Murgon Crusaders notched up their first win of the season in Round 4 of the Gympie A Grade cricket competition last Saturday.

Murgon were at home, taking on Gympie Colts in the Two-Day game played across October 12/19.

Colts won the toss and elected to bowl.

Crusaders were 190 all out at the end of their first innings, with opener Riley Sippel top-scoring with 50.

In reply, Colts were all out for 132, giving Murgon a first innings lead of 58 runs.

Tom Patten (4/14 off 11.1 overs) was the best of the Murgon bowlers.

Murgon declared at 3/97 in their second innings, with Lehman Brunjes 49 not out.

Colts were set a target of 155 to win, but finished with 8/35.

Murgon’s second innings bowling honours were shared: Tom Carney (3/8), Tom Patton (2/1) and Nicholas Sanewski (2/6).

Wooroolin Warriors remain undefeated in the Gympie A Grade competition after downing Gympie Valleys by eight wickets in Day 2 of their game at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy.

Valleys won the toss and elected to bowl.

Warriors declared at 7/286 in their first innings, and then had Valleys all out for 154.

Jackson Kerkow (65) and Kieran Askin (57 not out) were the top scorers for Warriors, while Askin then backed up by taking 6/42 off 18 overs.

Forced to follow-on, Valleys batted again and declared at 8/226, defending a lead of 94 runs.

Warriors overtook this in the 16th over for the loss of two wickets, 2/95.

Lawson Black (38 not out) and Hayden Wieck (26 not out) were the top scorers.

Goodchild Shield

The South Burnett Boars have notched up their second win in the Goodchild Shield competition, downing Gympie by six wickets at Murgon Showrounds last Sunday.

Gympie won the toss and elected to bat but were all out for 130 in the 44th over.

Tom Carney (3/9 off 10 overs, including four maidens),  Kieran Askin (3/18 off 10) and Nicholas Sanewski (2/15 off four) did the damage.

In reply, South Burnett overtook the target in the 24th over with the loss of just four wickets (4/134).

Brenton Polzin (43 off 49 balls), Nathan Roderick (36 not out) and Harry Sippel (22 not out) made the runs.

South Burnett are now on top of the ladder in the four-team competition.

Their  Round 3 game, against Fraser Coast, will be played at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy on Sunday, December 1.

SB Senior Cricket Results

Round 2 of the South Burnett Senior Cricket competition was played last Saturday.

  • Wondai Wolves (119 all out) def. Kingaroy Services (92 all out) by 27 runs at Wondai Sportsground.

Wolves won the toss an elected to bat and were all out in the 25th over.
Robert Christensen (23) was the top-scorer. Trevor Black took 2/14 off three overs.
In reply, Services were bowled out in 37 overs.
Opener Glenn Kelly top-scored with 18.

  • Wooroolin Warriors (7/139) def. Tingoora Huntsmen (135 all out) by three wickets at Tingoora Sportsground.

Huntsmen won the toss and elected to bat and were all out in the 35th over.
Jason Reilly (30) and Ben Pratt (23) were the top-scorers. Archie Koehler took 3/21 off eight overs.
In reply, Wooroolin Warriors overtook the total in the 21st over.
Hayden Donohue (41) and John-Paul Schultz (35) were the top-scorers.
Joshua Miller (2/31) and Jason Miller (2/32) were the pick of the Tingoora bowlers.

  • Tingoora Vikings (7/322) def. Nanango Scorpions (5/107) by 215 runs at Allan Downie Sports Fields, Nanango. 

Vikings won the toss and elected to bat. At the end of their 40 overs, captain Tavis Hartwig was 155 not out.
Brett Simpson (55 not out) also added to the massive total.
Jay Steinhardt (2/42 off five overs) had the best bowling figures for Nanango.
In reply, Scorpions ran out of overs.
Jay Steinhardt (44) and Joe Carney (23) were the top-scorers.
Robert Butters (1/13 off four) and Joshua Unverzagt (1/17 off eight) were the best bowlers for Vikings.

  • Murgon Diggers def. Tingoora Mercenaries by forfeit
